Best MacBook Air configuration? My MacBook Pro just died so I need to buy a new computer asap and my grandmother offered to buy me a new Mac. After reading reviews I settled on the 13' MacBook Air. I'd rather upgrade to the best version available, i.e, 2.0GhZ, 8GB, 512GB or at least pick and choose among these upgrades to make it faster/get more storage. I'm a grad student writing a thesis, I'm also a translator so I use office for Mac a lot. For that reason it would really help to get the computer sooner than later so I stop wasting time without working on my thesis or making money. If I skip the default 1.8ghz, 4gb, 256gb configuration, it will take about a week to get it, whereas if i get the default I can pick it up tomorrow at the store. On the other hand I don't want to be too big a burden on my grandmother by going to the highest price point possible. I will use it to write thesis and do translations, store the photos and videos of my two babies I usually take with my iPhone, store my iTunes library, use Skype and browse the Internet. It's important that I have a light computer so I can travel light with two kids (we fly internationally quite frequently). So how should I configure my MacBook Air? Mac os x 10.7 download free. Is it worth the extra time and money spent to get all the upgrades that are available with the 13' MBA? • Asked by fn from Alexandria • Mar 17, 2013. Best Answer: I can't give you the best answer in terms of the RAM and processor. However I strongly recommend going for the lower 256GB memory. The reason being, getting an external hard drive with a whole terabyte of memory is less than $100. If you're looking for portability, you can get 500GB on an external not much bigger than a smartphone. (and that was 3 years ago). On the other hand, going from 256 to 512 GB internal storage on the macbook air will cost you $300. 256GB to start is already plenty, if you just get an external all you'd need to keep on your computer is your current work, your itunes, maybe a few of all of your photos and videos. So, not a lot of hassle to save over $200. And that leaves you some financial wiggle room if you decide to upgrade the processor/RAM. Plus, you should have an external harddrive already anyway for backup purposes. • Answered by Elise Y from Bozeman • Apr 1, 2013. Minimum RequirementsI’m not going to beat around the bush. Bottom line is that if you want to get started with iOS application development you’re going to need (or at least have access to) a Mac and at it ideally will be running latest version of OS X. If you’re a PC owner, you’re out of luck I’m afraid. The Xcode development tools are only available on OS X and there isn’t really a viable PC alternative at present. I guess it’s a marketing choice on Apples behalf but for now if you want to join the world of iOS developers it’s a really a Mac or nothing. “The Mac Mini can be a great entry level solution but add a Thunderbolt Display and the costs start mounting.” Development Hardware Options So what does this mean if you haven’t already got a Mac and want to get started? If you run a sequencer on your Mac you can use your PC as a host for virtual instruments; or use the PC for video and Mac for Audio when building a video project. One method i use is to use Logic on my Mac and use my PC for developing sounds in my hardware and software samplers. The entry level MacBook is $1299 / £1049, an 11-inch Macbook Air is available from around £749 / $899 and a 13-inch MacBook Pro is a little more expensive at £999 / $1299. My preference out of these would be the 13-inch MacBook Pro though.
